Regina Mundi Hosts Vibrant Junior Youth National Jubilee Congress

The Junior Youth National Jubilee Celebrations, recently held at Regina Mundi, concluded successfully, marking a significant moment in the life of young Catholics in Zimbabwe. Junior youths from dioceses across the country gathered for this national event, which created space for prayer, learning, fellowship, and shared reflection. The celebrations formed part of the broader Jubilee journey of the Church, offering young people an opportunity to deepen their relationship with God while strengthening bonds with peers from different backgrounds and communities.
Guidance and Encouragement from the Bishop
The celebrations were graced by the presence of His Lordship, Bishop Rudolf Nyandoro, whose address resonated strongly with the young participants. In his message, the Bishop underscored the importance of spiritual growth, discipline, and responsibility among young people. He reminded the youths that they play a critical role in shaping both the Church and the nation, urging them to remain grounded in Christian values. The Bishop also spoke candidly about the dangers of drug and substance abuse, warning that such practices threaten not only individual futures but also the wellbeing of families and communities. Encouraging the youths to appreciate each stage of life, he advised them to live their youth responsibly and joyfully, without rushing into concerns beyond their age.
A Rich and Transformative Programme
The Junior Youth National Jubilee Celebrations offered a well-rounded programme that catered for the spiritual, social, and personal development of participants. Throughout the event, youths engaged in a variety of activities designed to inspire, educate, and unite. These included Holy Masses and prayer sessions, which anchored the celebrations in faith and reflection. Workshops and seminars addressed issues of faith formation, leadership, and personal growth, equipping participants with practical tools for daily life. Cultural performances and music brought vibrancy to the celebrations, showcasing Zimbabwe’s rich traditions, while sporting activities promoted teamwork, discipline, and healthy interaction. The event also provided valuable opportunities for fellowship, enabling young people to form friendships and networks that extend beyond diocesan boundaries.
Learning to Walk Together: Synodality in Practice
An important dimension of the celebrations was the emphasis placed on synodality. Through selected talks and discussions, the youths were encouraged to embrace the vision of a Church that listens, includes, and discerns together. In line with the teachings of Pope Francis, participants were invited to understand synodality as a way of journeying together—sharing experiences, engaging in dialogue, and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This approach helped young people appreciate their role as active participants in the life and mission of the Church.
As the celebrations drew to a close, His Lordship Bishop Rudolf Nyandoro called on the youths to carry the spirit of the Jubilee back to their parishes, schools, and families. He reminded them that Christian faith must be lived through daily choices, strong moral values, and service to others. Quoting Scripture, he urged the youths to be witnesses of Christ in their communities, allowing their actions to reflect the values they profess. The Junior Youth National Jubilee Celebrations stood as a clear sign of the Church’s commitment to accompanying young people on their journey of faith. At a time when society faces numerous challenges, the gathering reaffirmed the potential of young Catholics to contribute positively to both Church and nation.
