Jubilee Year Concludes with Faith, Unity, and Hope at St Theresa Cathedral
Pilgrims of Hope gather in thanksgiving as the Diocese of Gweru marks the close of the Jubilee Year
The Catholic Diocese of Gweru brought the Jubilee Year to a prayerful and joyful close on 28 December 2025 at St Theresa Cathedral, as Bishop Rudolf Nyandoro led the faithful in thanksgiving, reflection, and renewed commitment to charity and unity.
A Day of Blessings and Thanksgiving
It was a truly blissful and grace-filled day at St Theresa Cathedral on Sunday, 28 December 2025, as the Jubilee Year officially came to an end. Faithful from across the Diocese gathered in large numbers under the Jubilee theme “Pilgrims of Hope”, uniting in prayer and thanksgiving during a solemn Sunday Eucharistic celebration.
The Holy Mass was presided over by His Lordship, Bishop Rudolf Nyandoro, and concelebrated by all diocesan priests, whose collective presence reflected the strong pastoral unity and shared mission of the Diocese of Gweru.
A Joyful Procession Marks the Beginning
The celebrations commenced with a vibrant and spirited procession from the Cathedral gates. Leading the procession were the Bishop, priests, altar servers, dancers, and the choir, joined by faithful from various parishes across the Diocese.
The procession was marked by song, dance, and prayer, creating an atmosphere of joy and reverence. It symbolised the journey of the People of God—walking together in faith, hope, and unity—an embodiment of the Jubilee spirit.
Homily Reflection: Learning from the Holy Family
In his homily, Bishop Rudolf Nyandoro drew inspiration from the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus, emphasizing the importance of understanding and respecting distinct family roles in order to build strong Christian families and communities.
The Bishop encouraged the faithful to reflect on the lessons of the Jubilee Year, urging them to carry its message forward into daily life. He stressed that the Jubilee should not merely be remembered as an event, but as a spiritual journey that has shaped believers into more compassionate, understanding, and caring people.
Living the Jubilee through Charity
Right Reverend Bishop Rudolf Nyandoro reiterated the Church’s enduring call to care for the poor and vulnerable, highlighting almsgiving as a concrete expression of Christian love. In response to this call, the Diocese concluded the Holy Mass with donations and pledges designated for Children’s Homes within the Diocese.
This act of generosity served as a powerful reminder that faith must be lived through action, especially in service to those most in need.
- In response to the Bishop’s call to charity and solidarity with the poor and vulnerable, the faithful contributed the following items and pledges in support of Children’s Homes within the Diocese:
- Food items and household essentials
- Clothing, bedding, and basic necessities
- Toiletries, hygiene, and medical items
- School supplies and monetary donations/pledges
Although the Cathedral reached full capacity, the limited space did not dampen the spirit of the celebration. The faithful remained attentive and prayerful throughout the proceedings, demonstrating unwavering devotion and unity.
The gathering stood as a clear sign that the Diocese of Gweru is united and driven by a shared purpose, a strength that continues to nurture and deepen the faith of its people.
Gratitude, Festive Wishes, and Hope for 2026
As the celebration drew to a close, Bishop Rudolff Nyandoro expressed heartfelt gratitude to the clergy, religious, lay faithful, and all who contributed to the success of the Jubilee Year. He offered words of encouragement and extended warm wishes for a joyful festive season.
He concluded by calling on the faithful to enter 2026 with renewed hope, trusting in God’s guidance as the Diocese continues its pastoral mission.
