Four New Deacons Ordained at Serima Mission | Catholic Diocese of Gweru
A Joyful Milestone in the Life of the Catholic Diocese of Gweru
The Catholic Diocese of Gweru was filled with profound joy and thanksgiving on December 6th, as a jubilant congregation gathered at the historic Serima Mission to witness the Diaconate Ordination of four Ministers. The sacred celebration marked a significant and grace-filled milestone in the lives of these men as they formally entered the diaconate, taking a vital step on their journey toward Holy Orders.
The solemn and prayerful Eucharistic celebration was presided over by His Lordship, Sekuru Nyandoro, who was joined by diocesan priests and visiting clergy from across the Diocese and beyond. The presence of clergy, religious, family members, friends, and faithful from various parishes created an atmosphere rich in joy, hope, reverence, and communal thanksgiving.
A Sacred Call to Service
The Rite of Ordination unfolded with deep spiritual intensity, reminding all present of the Church’s enduring tradition and the sacred responsibility entrusted to those called to ordained ministry. Through prayer, the laying on of hands, and the invocation of the Holy Spirit, the candidates were consecrated to serve as Deacons—men called to a ministry of service, proclamation of the Word, and charity.
- The newly ordained Deacons are:
- Min. Rodrick Tapiwa Usayi
- Min. Tinashe Aaron Jacobs
- Min. Michael T. Kokai
- Min. Rodrick Prince Mazembe
- Each of these Deacons responded generously to God’s call, offering their lives in service to the Church and the People of God. Their ordination is not only a personal achievement but also a blessing to the entire Diocese, which continues to nurture and encourage vocations to priestly and diaconal ministry.
A Celebration of Faith and Community
The congregation united in prayer and song, expressing heartfelt gratitude to God for the gift of vocations. The faithful warmly welcomed the new Deacons, surrounding them with encouragement, love, and continued prayers as they begin this new chapter of ministry. Families, friends, formators, and parish communities shared in the joy of seeing years of discernment, formation, and sacrifice bear fruit.
In his homily and pastoral reflections, His Lordship emphasized the Deacon’s call to humility, obedience, and selfless service, urging them to remain rooted in prayer and close to the people they are called to serve. He reminded them that the diaconate is a ministry of service at the altar, in the Word, and among the poor and vulnerable, reflecting Christ who came not to be served but to serve.
Looking Ahead in Hope
As they now take up their responsibilities within the Diocese, the newly ordained Deacons are assured of the unwavering support of their brother clergy, religious communities, and the entire faithful of the Diocese of Gweru. Their ministry will strengthen parish life, enhance pastoral outreach, and contribute to the spiritual growth of the local Church.
This historic ordination at Serima Mission stands as a powerful testimony to God’s continued work within the Diocese—calling, forming, and sending servants to labour in His vineyard. It also serves as an inspiration to young people discerning their vocation, affirming that God continues to call men and women to dedicated service in His Church.
