National Movement of Catholic Students (NMCS) Midlands Regional Gathering
The National Movement of Catholic Students (NMCS) held its Midlands Regional Gathering at Driefontein Shrine from 30 to 31 October 2026 under the theme “Walking Together in Hope, Faith and Love.” The gathering provided an opportunity for spiritual renewal, reflection, leadership transition, fellowship and community engagement.
The program commenced with departure from the church at 1800 on 30 October. Upon arrival at Driefontein Shrine, the participants proceeded with the opening activities, which began with remarks and an introduction delivered by the outgoing Region V President.
The spiritual activities commenced with the Way of the Cross, led by the outgoing Regional President. This was followed by the Regional Elections, facilitated by the NMCS National President. The elections marked an important leadership transition within the region. While the voting process was underway and votes were being counted, participants had an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation through confessions facilitated by Fr Chikanya SJ and Fr Luphahla. The program continued with a session on Synodality and Mission for NMCS, presented by the National Chaplain. This session provided an opportunity for reflection on the mission of Catholic students and the importance of walking together in faith, participation and service.
Other spiritual and interactive activities included Bible Trivia, the Holy Rosary, intercession and individual prayers. These activities provided opportunities for fellowship, spiritual enrichment, reflection and strengthening the participants' faith.
On the morning of 31 October, participants freshened up and shared breakfast before proceeding to the Missioning Mass of the New Executive. The Mass was facilitated by Fr Chikanya SJ, the Chaplain, together with Fr Luphahla. This was a significant moment in the program as the newly elected executive was formally commissioned for its responsibilities.
Following the Missioning Mass, participants proceeded to the scheduled charity visit, which ran from 08:40 to 12:00. This activity reflected the gathering's emphasis on Christian charity, compassion and putting faith into action through service to others. The program concluded with the Angelus and a group examination of conscience, followed by lunch. Participants subsequently departed at approximately 14:00, bringing the gathering to a close.
The Driefontein Regional Gathering was centered on spiritual growth, leadership development, unity and service. Through prayer, reflection, elections, fellowship, the Missioning Mass and the charity visit, the program sought to strengthen the NMCS community and encourage members to live out the values of hope, faith and love. The gathering also provided an important platform for leadership transition and renewed commitment to the mission of the National Movement of Catholic Students.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the priests, outgoing and incoming leadership, Gweru youth office, facilitators, associates, liturgy team, catering team and all participants whose contributions made-up the program possible. May the spirit of walking together in hope, faith and love continue to guide the NMCS in its mission of faith, fellowship and service.
