ST MARY'S (AMAVENI)

The Church (parish) was founded in 1952.

A. CHAPEL

The parishioners used to celebrate Mass under the shade of an indigenous tree which was situated where the current shrub roundabout is situated.
The Old church building was officially opened in 1955 by Father Kaufmann, under Bishop Aston Ignatius Sebastian Joseph Chichester SJ, who was the first Roman Catholic Archbishop of the then Salisbury now Harare, Zimbabwe region. The current Church building in use was officially opened in 1974.
The GROTTO was built in 2009 under the parish priest Fr Morris Kudezera,
The ablution block/facilities were built in 2012 with the parish priest at that time being the present Chancellor of Gweru Diocese Fr. Gilbert Chibhira.
St Mary’s parishioners with parish priest Fr. Victor Musendeki had a borehole drilled in 2018.
The chapel was then equipped with solar light in the year 2020 with Fr. Victor Musendeki as the parish priest.
Renovations and painting being done on the outside walls of the Chapel, under Fr. Victor Musendeki
Tiling of the chapel was done in the year 2023 under Fr. Ephraim Matingwina as the parish priest.
Benches with a back rest have since been purchased under Fr. Ephraim Matingwina as the parish priest as of July 2024, and it is the project which is still underway.

B. MARYWARD PRE-SCHOOL
It was founded in 1989 by Sr. Ortrudis Maier (from Germany) under Rt. Rev Bishop Xavier Mugadzi, the then Shepherd of the Gweru Diocese.

C. MARYWARD SISTERS’ CONVENT:
-The convent was built from 1992 to 1993.
-Sr. Donata Riegel was present at the convent opening.

D. CHILDREN’S HOME:
-This followed closely to the building of the Sisters’ convent in the same years 1992-1993
-The four houses built, can accommodate close to 100 children both boys and girls
-The children housed, come through the Department of Social Welfare
-The home relies on donations from within and outside the country
-Local well-wishers assist the home in many ways

 

E.MARYWARD E.C.D & DAY CARE:
-Opened its doors to the public in 1989. The Day Care has since started its operation this year 2024 -It has a capacity of 50 children.
